The Change Healthcare cyberattack showed how deeply connected healthcare operations had become, while the European Parliament approved a risk-based AI law.

AI depends on the same data flows, identities and systems that already carry operational risk. A fragile back office does not become resilient simply because a language model is placed in front of it.

For a clinic, payer or revenue-cycle team, that means referral, eligibility, billing and document workflows should be mapped before an agent touches them. The same is true for manufacturers running old ERP modules, distributors relying on spreadsheets, or insurers with multiple policy systems.

Inventory critical workflows and their systems; identify single points of failure; document data owners and access; establish downtime and recovery paths; then choose a small AI use case that can fail safely.
